International
As a part of the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, you must either live in school approved homestay accommodation, with a parent, or a designated caregiver (relative). You will not be allowed to live in independent accommodation.
Most of our international students live with a homestay family while they are in New Zealand as it gives our international students the opportunity to fully participate in New Zealand life and make the most of their New Zealand experience.
Below are the accommodation options while you are living in New Zealand and studying at Palmerston North Boys’ High School.
Our homestay programme is arranged with local New Zealand families living close to the school, who will offer a safe and supportive environment while you transition into the New Zealand culture and study here at Palmerston North Boys’ High School. You will be placed in a warm, welcoming and supportive homestay and provided with excellent pastoral care.
College House is our boarding hostel and is located on school grounds. College House offers quality accommodation and provides seven day boarding for domestic and international students. Students participate in a range of activities and team sports while pursuing study in a traditional well-disciplined environment where hostel rules are strictly enforced.

Parent/s
Some parent/s accompany their children to New Zealand. If students are living with a parent/s, then the parent/s has full responsibility for the pastoral care of the international student outside tuition hours.

Designated Caregiver
A Designated Caregiver is a person or family that the student’s parents have chosen to take care of their child while they are in New Zealand. The parents take full responsibility and accept the decisions made by their Designated Caregiver about the day-to-day requirements of their child. Even though the parents have chosen this family, Palmerston North Boys’ High School has a responsibility to check that the home is suitable for the student and if the caregiver will be verified as a Designated Caregiver.
